Over the years, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with meal planning. Love the organization of healthy meal planning, but hated feeling like my life was so…regimented and inflexible. So I begged my uber geeky husband to help me out and create a meal planning tool that works for my real, imperfect, and often chaotic life – and yours too.
Speaking of planning, are you feeling the spring itch to detox?
In Chinese medicine and beyond, the spring season is all about growth and rebirth. It really is the perfect time to enjoy warmer, longer days and do a bit of cleansing. But this doesn’t necessarily mean gallons of fruit juice or fasting from all food and diving into a hard detox.
Ditch the detox
The problem with a detox is that it’s a quick fix. It doesn’t solve lifestyle habits that drive you to detox in the first place. If a sweet tooth, late night snacking, or too many drinks throughout the week make you feel sluggish and heavy – play the long game and change how you eat. For good.
With a busy life and demands from work and family, try eating meals that emphasizes green plants, light veggie soups, and bright herbs.
Simple, whole foods make sure you (and your family) feel awesome. Less junk. More of the real stuff. You might even feel inspired to make a restorative batch of bone broth and kick that sugar habit.
But how are you going to make it happen?
Even if you march yourself off to the farmer’s market and fill your basket with gorgeous produce, eggs from pasture-raised hens, and the finest knuckle bones – will you actually get it cooked and on the table week in and week out? Or will you veer back to making your same go-to meals and ordering takeout when you can’t be bothered?
Why healthy meal planning is your key to cleansing
Sure, you could do meal planning on your own.
The first step is to sit down and decide what your family is going to eat. Then, figure out a strategy of when to cook it that works with busy schedule.
If you’re not going to make the same five dishes over and over again, you’ll need to research and try out new recipes – and find ones that won’t have you slaving for hours on end each night in the kitchen.
Then you need to compile a shopping list, so that you can head off to the market and hopefully not fill your cart with expensive chocolate and other things that you don’t really need.
Finally, you head home. Ready to cook or ready for a nap?
Let me save you time and money
Remember the tool I asked my uber geeky husband to build? Well, it works. I have a healthy meal plan week after week. And you can use it too. It’s called Real Plans.
With Real Plans you don’t have to put any thought into what you’re serving for dinner, when you’re going to cook it, or what you need to buy at the grocery store.
Each week is packed with seasonal, yummy goodness and detailed plans that will make nutritious dinners a breeze. I also offer options that are gluten-free, dairy-free, AIP friendly, and Whole30 compliant…in case there are diet restrictions in your house.
