Wow. You are more than halfway through this Healthy Living Makeover, and I just want to take a moment to say… NICE JOB!
If you’ve been implementing these steps along the way, you should be starting to really notice a transformation happening in your life. More time, better food, and a sense of being back in control. Doesn’t that feel great?
If you haven’t completed all four of the previous action steps (saying no to say yes, delegating, food sourcing, planning for tomorrow) be sure to go back and do so now.
Don’t worry. I’ll be here waiting for you. Just don’t take too long because what’s coming in this (and the next two emails) is important too.
As a holistic health practitioner and real foodie, you could say I’m a bit obsessed with keeping my family from getting sick. Sure, sometimes the sniffles, sneezes, coughs, and even flu are unavoidable – especially when it comes to germy kids, but I really strive to keep it to a minimum.
One simple trick: Always keep your immune boosting supplements on the ready – at your house, at your office, in the car, in your purse… That way you can use them at the very first inkling of a sore throat, stuffy nose, or other sign that your body is fighting something.
Another thing I try to do every day is incorporate foods that support good immune health like bone broth (in soups, stews, gravy, or as a drink) and cultured foods – like yogurt, sauerkraut, and kombucha.
Over the years I’ve really figured out what works to ward off illness for myself, my family, and my patients. And when we do get sick, in most cases the symptoms are less severe than what’s “going around” and we tend to bounce back much faster.
I confess though, I get a bit tired of repeating myself over and over again, so I decided to write it all down in a little guidebook to share, appropriately titled – Don’t Get Sick. This ebook is entirely free for you and contains:
- My tried-and-true immune boosting protocol
- Foods to support good immune health and prevent illness
- Targeted supplements for addressing specific symptoms as they arise
- Handy printable checklists to make sure your arsenal is stocked and ready

Because who’s got the time to be nursing a cold when there’s so much good life to be enjoying?
Action steps:
- Double check your supply of immune supplements for immune support.
- Make a point to incorporate at least one immune boosting food in each meal.
- Leave a comment below to share what immune boosting practices work best for you.

I think eating well is the #1 immune booster. I have noticed that I and my children don’t get as sick as often as other people do. Yes, sometimes when a bug is going around school, one of my children might pick it up, but most of the time, they don’t. It really is rare for them to get sick and that has become noticeable different times when some of their friends have been through many bouts of this or that and my children were in the same places & around the same people, but didn’t get sick. However, another observation I have made is that when we do get sick, we tend to get sick ALMOST ALWAYS around the holidays when we are more lax with our diet because we are at all kinds of gatherings and consume more sugar and “junk”, etc. I am convinced that a good diet is key to keeping our immune system in good shape.

In addition to whole foods as much as possible (we have a garden going year round), I also make milk and water kefir as well as kombutcha to get in probiotics. I also just started making beet and fruit kvass. If I do notice me or my daughter getting ill, I always have echinacea tea on hand as well as fresh lemon juice and raw local honey (my daughter thinks it is cough medicine). I also keep a pink Himalayan salt sole going for a gargle. Fortunately we only experience about 1 cold a year and as a teacher and her a student, I think we are doing great.

Bone Broth! Do it. I make my broth EVERY SUNDAY and drink about a medium mason jar full daily. I have now started giving the broth to my boys when they have upset stomachs or show any sign of the common cold. We are all reaping the benefits of bone broth and I will continue to incorporate this more and more in our meals especially over the winter we are approaching in the Hudson Valley, NY!!!!!!!!!

We are pretty hardcore about eating clean real food, which I believe is super important for immunity. I make kombucha, sauerkraut, and other fermented veggies, natural probiotics. We also eat a lot of garlic and onions. My next step in immune building… getting into the regular habit of making and drinking bone broth.
If we feel a cold coming on I make a hot drink consisting of lemon, honey, ginger, garlic and cayenne then go to bed.
We work with the public and are mindful of regular hand washing.
