I would love for you to be my patient, but sometimes, you may need to see someone else other than me. Whether your condition is out of my scope of practice, or I just think a different approach or practitioner will be a better fit or complimentary to what we're doing, I often refer patients to other great practitioners – big bonus if that practitioner is holistic-minded.
I like to think of good practitioners as an extension of my own tool box. When I need more support (either personally or professionally), I reach into my kit and find the right modality and practitioner to fit my needs. I encourage yo to to the same.
What is a holistic practitioner?
Holistic health is about looking at the big picture, not just slapping a bandaid on every issue. A holistic practitioner takes into consideration the whole person – mind, body, spirit – when considering a person's condition, diagnosis, and treatment. Holistic treatments aim to address the symptoms as well as the root cause of an issue whether it be neck pain, digestive upset, or an autoimmune condition. Holistic practitioners tend to guide a patient to wellness and self-healing rather than just trying to offer a quick fix for things that aren't working.
So, I'd like to introduce you to some skilled and compassionate practitioners I know.
This week, meet Robin Green, L.Ac.
I first met Robin through our training with the Holistic Pediatric Association and was immediately draw to her warm and friendly nature. Robin has mastered the art of acupuncture for kids, and blogs about it KidsLoveAcupuncture.com.
Your business name and website:
What do you do?
I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist specializing in pediatrics.
Where do you practice?
I practice in Morgan Hill, California which is about 25 miles south of San Jose.
Who are your patients/clients?
At this point in my practice I see families. Usually I see the mother first and then the kids. I also see quite a few children with serious health conditions.
What tools do you use the most?
My main tools are pediatric acupuncture needles which I call “taps,” and for those who are not ready for taps yet, I use a pain-less microcurrent device to stimulate the acupuncture points and which has a similar therapeutic effect as acupuncture. I also use massage and laser acupuncture treatments.
What do you love about your practice?
I love the variety of my practice. There is never a dull moment when you work with kids, and since we make the treatments fun, there is a lot of clapping and laughing! I've worked with a number of seriously ill children. Their bravery and outlook on life inspires me.
The most common conditions you treat?
I most commonly treat immune related conditions such as eczema, asthma, allergies, low immunity, chronic ear infections, sinusitis and bronchitis.
Your favorite success story?
I had a nine year old boy who came to see me with the most severe case of asthma and allergies I've ever seen. He had repeatedly been hospitalized and was on countless rounds of anti-biotics and well as being on at least 7 other medications. After working with him for 18 months his asthma and allergy symptoms were under control without medication. Now he is 15 and the healthiest member of the family. He no longer has allergies or asthma and is doing great!
What's your secret to your own health and well being?
My three secrets are getting plenty of sleep, swimming 4 days a week and eating a diet without processed foods rich in organic lean meats, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
What's your favorite health food?
Kombucha! I love this fermented tea drink and all it's health benefits! Yum!
We all have one – what's your guilty pleasure?
Dark Chocolate! It's rich in antioxidants, right?!
Thanks, Robin!
