If you’re anything like me, you may have times in your life when you wonder if your metabolism is broken.
You may have thought, “What’s with that odd collection of weight around my middle [or another area of the body] that I never had before and won’t seem to go away regardless of what I do?”
You cut out grains (or fat or meat or sugar), which worked for a while…until your jeans got tight again.
You took up spinning (or zumba or crossfit) obsessively…but still couldn’t seem to feel good in your skin.
Or maybe you’ve just resigned yourself to that fact that your metabolism has slowed with age and you’re destined to get a bit heavier, doughier, and more tired with each passing year.
Well, I’m here to say:
Enough deprivation. Enough over-exercising. Enough resigning yourself to feeling not so great.
The problem is that we’ve been going about this all wrong. Dieting and over-exercising can actually damage your metabolism, making it harder to lose body fat or maintain a healthy weight. And this doesn’t just affect your ability to wear a slinky dress…
Why is a nourished metabolism so important?
When you hear the word “metabolism” you probably think of burning calories. Most people do. The diet industry has high-jacked the word metabolism so that people only think of it in terms of calories-in versus calories-out. However, your metabolism is much more than that.
Think of your metabolism as how you convert energy. But it goes way beyond just calories, because every cell in your body needs energy to function. And the quality of that function is determined by the energy your cells can produce and use.
That means brain function, liver function, digestive function, thyroid function, and every other incredible function your body performs, all depend on energy conversion. (Walling 5)
In Chinese medicine, it is understood that healthy digestion is essential to all body functions, and digestion always needs to be addressed when there is illness or imbalance. Without a healthy, nourished metabolism, being fat should be the least of your worries.
Introducing Nourished Metabolism
Up until very recently ladies and gents with metabolism issues were generally out of luck. Media and conventional doctors recommend skim milk, lean meats, and more exercise as the general public grows fatter, more tired, and more sick.
Luckily help is here now, and I’m super excited to share this with you.
Elizabeth Walling, a fellow blogger over at The Nourished Life, has laid out the solution to our metabolism woes in her ebook, Nourished Metabolism. In a short time, Nourished Metabolism has become wildly popular because Elizabeth is on to something: In order to enjoy good health (and a healthy weight) you must have a nourished metabolism. Period.
In Nourished Metabolism, Elizabeth covers everything you need to do to heal your metabolism and restore your health – from what and how to eat; the role of sleep on metabolism; common myths about stress; and how to exercise for optimal metabolic health.
Is your metabolism nourished or stressed?
I absolutely love this ebook, and I know it can help shift unhealthy perspectives – and even save lives.
